Teenagers

You never know quite what to expect from a teen person. Sometimes they are amazing, articulate, bright ... so obviously ready to take on the world. As a mom, you smile at those moments, soaking them in, enjoying that kid.

And then there are times when you hear the most unexpected, random thing come out of their mouth and you wonder, "Who is this kid's parents? What planet is he from?"

I had those moments, back to back, the other day. I was driving Collin to the community college so that he could take the English Placement Test in order to get into Running Start. We had studied for the test and I was confident that he was going to pass it and soon be an official college student at the ripe age of 16. I was smiling. So, we're driving along and I asked him to do me a small favor. Could he please text Kaisha at work and tell her that our passports came in the mail today? Sure. No problem. So he starts into it. Driving along. My kid is so smart. He's going to pass this test with flying colors. Happy. And then ... he asks, "How do you spell came?" WHAT? "How do you spell came?" He couldn't just ask once. C-A-M-E. "Oh, ya, right. I was thinking it was K." Shatter my world! You don't know how to spell came on the way to the English Placement Test? Sigh. No wonder there are times when I just can't think. Teenagers. You gotta love 'em.

You did say that you thought it was a "k". Honestly. Would your precious mother embellish such a thing? No. You make it good enough without adding fiction to the story.

Everybody. I have never been more honest in my life than right now. Seriously. I know that you will not believe me, but I did NOT say that I thought it was a K. I said that it didn't look right at that particular moment. Please believe me because I am telling the truth... not my mom. I'm not even going to say "lol" because this is a serious matter.
