There was an elephant in our woods

Last night there was an elephant in our woods. It was around 10:30pm and the oldest person besides us that lives in our home came into our room and said, "Um ... there's something in the woods." She went on to describe the crashing and thrashing it was doing our there and told us how it was definitely not a deer. Much larger than a deer. "Like an elephant." It was dark out and even if it wasn't we certainly wouldn't have gotten out of bed just to look at an elephant in our woods. We encouraged her to wake up one of her siblings and take them out to her room with her. We aren't sure how it all ended ... but my only regret is that I wasn't thinking straight so late at night. If I could do it over again I would give her the shot gun and we could have filled the freezer for the winter.
Since we didn't get a picture of the elephant ... here is a picture of Mt. Baker. You can see the path that Collin and Brett took when they climbed it in July. Do you see the large rock formation kind of in the middle of the mountain, near the top? And the smaller rock outcropping to the far right? There is a thin line of rock stretching between the two. This snow-covered area between them is called the Roman Wall. It's a lot longer than it looks in the picture. It is very steep and when they climbed it was very windy and cold and Collin had altitude sickness ... badly. They said it felt like they were going to get blown right off the mountain. It was the hardest part of the whole climb, mostly because of the weather. Amazingly enough, throughout the entire two day climb, they didn't see one elephant.

That's where they climbed? Oh my goodness!!! What an amazing beautiful majestic terrifying site. I'm glad I didn't know what it looked like before they went, I would have worried about them.

You know, one of the downers of living in town is that we have never had an elephant. I'm so jealous.
