Chapter Closed

This is Brett's wife without migraines. Today I had a follow up appointment with the migraine specialist I've been going to for the past 8 months. I am beyond thankful to the Lord that I could give the report that I haven't had a migraine since July! He said I should come back in a year. A YEAR! It is, I hope, the closing of a ten year chapter of my life. I remember my first migraine. We were on a two night vacation with the Stevens family at Mt. St. Helens. Alissa was in a stroller. In ten years I seldom went two weeks without a migraine. This spring when I first went to see this doctor, Brett drove me there because the doctor's office is 45 minutes away from our home and I couldn't drive that far by myself because of the high likelihood of getting a migraine! These years have been filled with cancelling events, camping trips with migraines, Brett picking up the slack when I was in bed with a headache, avoiding chocolate, "a sense of impending doom" as we liked to call it, camping trips with migraines, the kids having to be quiet all day long, homeschooling through squinted eyes, wondering if it was worse to take the medication to get rid of the headache or just to wait it out, and did I mention the camping trips with migraines? I'm thrilled to be looking at life without migraines ... bring it on!

I am so happy for you, Kristine! That is so awesome that it's been over three months since your last migraine! What a great chapter to close. I'm curious too...can you eat chocolate now?

Chocolate? Well, I ate an M&M the other day ... just one. :o) No, I'm still not eating chocolate or doing 20 or so other things that are migraine triggers for me. But maybe in a few months I'll try a tiny bit of chocolate, and then a tiny bit more etc. We'll see. Since chocolate=migraines for so many years ... I'm a little gun shy.
And what did the nice little migraine doctor do for me? Just the right preventative medication. I take a low dose of a high blood pressure medication. It's a medication that has been around for, I think he said 40 years. The only side effect is that if I get up too fast I get a little dizzy. A great trade for getting my life back!
