1914

It must have been a good year - 1914. The crops must have grown, the cows gave milk, the chickens laid eggs and Aunt Blondina was born. Strong German stock and a great sense of humor. Farm girl gone artist. Ninety-four years later she is as creative as ever. She has a smile for the past, and for tomorrow. Her cup is half-full; there's a bright side to every tough moment. She had cancer in her 60's and tells how "everything was more beautiful" after that. She has a mental list of "great things about growing old." She even likes going to the dentist ... you should see the art hanging on the office walls! She's content to be home most of the time and lives for days off the stories of our adventures. She has taught us that there is purple in every sunset and that it's ok to copy someone else's art. "Only God makes the original." Sharper in humor than most people I know ... and she loves my kids. We have a lot in common: creativity, German stubbornness, family, the Lord, and we both like her art. What more could you ask for in a 94 year old friend? Oh, I know she's not perfect. We all have our moments. But if I could have half the cheer she exudes at age 94, then as far as growing old ... bring it on. Happy Birthday today, Aunt Blondy! We love you.
