She Did It

And it was a heap of fun! Alissa had her first swim meet in Anacortes today. She learned how swim meets work, how to be in the right place at the right time according to the heat sheets, swam in three races, and had an all around great day. Her best race was the 100 yard freestyle. We don't have the official time yet, but it was around 1:26 ... just three seconds away from qualifying in the silver category!
Alissa and her friend Taryn.
Taryn is so much fun to be around. Full of life and energy! Alissa loves swimming with her.

(Photography note: I was playing with this picture in Photoshop and liked this look. Oh, and I took all the pictures in manual again, resisting the strong urge to switch back to automatic.)

Look at this crazy thing all the kids/coaches do. They take Sharpies and write all their races on their arms. A little graph that tells the kids the event, heat, lane and stroke they are supposed to swim. The coordination of the whole meet amazed us. Kids everywhere and race after race going on for hours! Rumor has it that the ink doesn't come off for at least a week.

Liss, you did great! We're proud of you and thankful to the Lord that you have this opportunity!

How cool is that. Great photos! Let us know when you have a meet here in B'ham. We saw a water polo match and it was wild. Love to see a swim meet, especially when we know a swimmer.
